Hans + Verity’s State Park Wedding
Verity and Hans. These two are like a breath of fresh air! Their small wedding at Big Ridge State Park outside of Knoxville was just right in every way. It was warm, intimate, yet bustling with excitement from their friends and loved ones. It was a warm October evening; the kind that has that beautiful, glowing, sultry light. Canada geese were lazily floating in the lake looking for bits of food.
What I admired most about this wedding was the down-to-earth nature and attention to meaningful details. A palpable peace and contentment spread throughout the group. For instance, many guests camped or stayed in cabins the night before the wedding, so there was a bit of a “festival atmosphere” when I got there. Everyone was happy and relaxed, slowly coming out of their cabins for the big event. Some friends and family were decorating the inside of the reception hall with plants that Verity had rooted herself and beautifully patterned cloths from around the world.
The ceremony was simple and beautiful. Verity and Hans wanted each guest to have a special part in the wedding, so they passed the rings throughout the crowd so that every person in attendance could touch them and pass on a blessing in their own way. Everyone was treated like family. Everyone had a place. And speaking of the rings, they were brought down the aisle tied to their trusted ring bearer: their sweet rescue dog, Waylon. He wore a flowered collar for the occasion and looked very dapper!
What an honor to be part of such a beautiful event and to be surrounded with so much kindness! I hope you enjoy these highlights from their day.
